Yep, we've done that, too. Our problem (which I completely do not understand!) is: there is an older farm close-by, and ferrel cats multiply like rabbits over there in an abandoned barn. WHY the town won't make the owners do something is beyond me!! Smithfield is pretty strict about dog poo. It's a quaint little town, and lots of folks can be seen walking their dogs in nice weather. The town has pick-up-after-your-pet stations throughout the town.
But, the policy here is: you can't just get a humane trap (we have one, btw), set it, and turn in whatever you catch. You
must feed and water a cat for ten days to say it's yours to turn over to animal control!!! Our neighbor did that a few months back, and had kittens in his yard!! I don't know how many cats he ended up catching.
I guess I'll have to get angry enough to educate the town council about the toxicity of cat poo to dogs!
