Default Flaky skin and scabs?

Hi all,

I will be taking Wid to the vet for this, but I thought I'd post to see what you all have had experience with.

Widdles has very, very dry skin. On his lower back, right before his tail, he has clusters of large dry flakes and several scabs. I never see him picking at himself, unless he does it at night when we're sleeping. He has no fleas, and isn't exposed to anything that is knowingly irritating. He's not overweight, nor underweight, so I'm not leaning toward thyroid. His haircoat is normaly on the oily side. He tends to get stringy within a day or two of bathing.

My vet had told me when he was just four/five months old or so that he appeared to be an 'allergy' dog. That he may have issues with grass and outdoor pollens. His eyes were watery then, that was back in September.

I do have a gas fireplace that's on a few times during the day. We have forced hot water baseboard heat.

I add olive oil to his diet, and just recently started homecooking for the crew.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Joy
