If she has loose bowels, I would be very careful about "pushing" different types of foods. I had a similar situation with Peppy -- 10 months 2 1/2 lbs, he wouldn't eat and I was trying this and that and then something different just to get him to eat. There is no doubt in my mind that he would have chosen not eating. I doubt he would have "starved", hypoglocemia would have killed him. Anyway a trip to the vet was in order. She "prescribed" Science Diet a/d which is specifically for finicky/sickly/non eaters. The first day it was all I could do to get Peppy to eat a teaspoon. He now scarfs down his 1/2 can in about 3 minutes -- and the huge plus is that he is now eating dry Innova EVO. Peppy is now a whopping 2 lbs. 15 ounces (on a good day). I am hoping we can hit three lbs. and stay there. LOL
We have dental surgery looming in our near future (removal of retained baby teeth). As soon as that is overwith and his mouth gets back to normal then I will be slowly weaning him off of the a/d and get him eating just the Innova.
Good Luck!!!
One word of caution...... a lot of folks feed commercially prepared baby food and with good results, however, baby food often contains onion and garlic as flavor enhancers, but they are toxic to dogs. A dog that already has an upset tummy doesn't need to have to deal with known toxins. |
