Hi when mine get it, I sit them on my lap, gently hold there head slightly upwards, so their wind pipe is able to get air in. I then play " Mummies breathing exercise " Where I say to them, " Breathe with Mummy " and I breath in and out very slowly and deeply, I know it SOUNDS STUPID and probably looks pretty comical, but it destracts them from their fear and they are OK again in no time. It destracts them enough to get them to relax and then their breathing returns to normal.
It has worked with all three of mine, obviously I am not a vet, and don't claim that this works for everyone, but it does mine.
I must add, anyone MUST follow thier vets advise, with any medical issue. It is only what works with mine.
None of mine have ever got worse. What medicine do you give yours.
