I imagine it's like a yeast infection or something that ob/gyn's see so often and know the symptoms, that they really don't need to do any testing on them and running up a bigger vet bill for something they've seen a bazillion times. And, they give you what should treat it and if it doesn't work within a few days, then they'll do the testing. It used to be called "empirical" medicine before everyone got so sue happy. It's nice to know there's some vets out there who know what they're looking at after they've dealt with it time and time again and don't just soak you for unnecessary testing.
