3 Yorkies here,, 2 microchipped,, one not,, mine are,, hubbys is not,, personal preferences,,but it was the concern of them taking off ,, being picked up,, then if they are at any vets office,, or shelter,, sheriffs office,, etc. they are supposed to be scanned,, Cricket was so tiny,, we waited a long time to get hers,, and had it done when she was out for her spay surgery,, you can feel hers under the skin,, but its not prominent,, the gauge of the smallest needle for it is 14,,which is pretty good size,, but I had Trixie "chipped" when i took her in for her last puppy shots,, as she was 3.7 pounds,, placement is the same,, but our vet won't do it if they are under 2 pounds,, says it hurts em too badly when they are that tiny,, Trixie's was done when she was fully awake,, and she hollered just a minute,, like any kid getting a shot,,then she was just fine, no bleeding,, no pain at the site,, she doesnt seem to know its there,, but i do,, for great peace of mind,, check the recovery rates on chipped dogs!!! our vets office has scanned and returned a few dogs themselves,, and are believers in microchipping count me on the DO IT side, |
