That's the best explanation the vets can come up with up to now. I suppose it makes sense...living things are pretty good at prioritizing, and if her body is not absorbing well, it would use whatever it can get to keep her heart and major organs nourished. Since she lives in a warm environment (she never never goes outside), hair would be pretty low on the priority list.
