I think it depends upon the individual situation if a Yorkie is ok with kids. How have the kids been raised? How much time do you plan on socializing the puppy with small kids? How diligently are you going to watch the puppy and children together?

I have three kids- 8, 6, and 5. My 5 year old is the typical rough and tumble boy, but not around the dogs. He has been raised to appreciate and respect them... I have not had any problems with my kids and dogs. The kids are not left alone in the room with them, and if they are doing something that I don't think the dogs should be around- (the new High School Musical Twister game, for an example) then the dogs go in their crates. Also I have a 150 lb Mastiff, and if she were not as gentle as she is, there could be problems.

The only problem I have had is children coming into my home that have not been taught to respect dogs/animals. My babies are put up in their crates, and only the Mastiff is allowed to be around them. I won't take any chances. I think if you have small dogs and children, you must make the decision to confine the dogs in their crates (or a seperate room) when a situation warrants it... as much as I don't like to do it, it is best for them, and I know they will be safe.
