Before you decide to go for a walk, get Charlie accustomed to the harness. Start by putting it on Charlie several times a day for short periods of time. If he doesn't adjust to that type of harness, then you might want to switch to another type. There are a lot of different types - harness vests - buddy belts, step-in harnesses - all are good and in most cases safe for walking. YT has many very talented seamstresses/vendors who can help you with the perfect harness/leash for Charlie.

Once Charlie is accustomed to the harness and will wear it without complaint, then hook the leash on to the "d" ring and let him drag it around the house (under constatnt supervision to avoid injury) Once Charlie is completely comfortable with the harness and leash, then try walking him inside. When you can control him inside, then start going for short walks.

I know it sounds like a long drawn out process, but I guarantee you will get quicker results by going slow than by fast.
