Fleas CAN get to be really bad here; we don't have "winters" to kill the little beasties off like folks up North do. But I don't anticipate the pups being outside all that much: they will be very pampered members of the family, not kennel dogs.
I will go so far as to do Sentinal (if approved by the consensus opinion as being safe), but stop at other chemicals. They can have more frequent baths, if it comes to that
