Mine doesn't. He barks when someone rings the doorbell or knocks on the door until I open it. And he'll 'woof' at us if he wants to get our attention (like to play with him), but that's only for a second.
And I had the same misconception about Yorkies before I got one....IMO, Maltese are far yappier than Yorkies.
