New Puppy at Emergency Vet!! Okay, I just got my new 9 week old yorkie puppy, Lexie. My 12 year old yorkie passed away 2 years ago, so I thought it was finally time. She was the runt of the liver, has been to the vet by the breeder...they said she was eating fine. They did tell me she was eating Eukanuba. Took her thursday, she ate a little food, but not much. Same thing friday. I did some research on here and started getting worried about hypoglycemia because she was acting groggy. Gave her pancake syrup, she perked up. Went saturday am and got some nutrical in case it happened again. We finally got in touch with the breeder and found out she was eating alpo. She ate that heartily on Sat. and took her to the vet. He said blood sugar normal, looks healthy, lungs and heart sound good, she just needs to keep eating. She ate a little sat. night. Woke up sun. am to find her trying to throw up, gave her nutrical, took her to the emergency vet. Said her sugar was 83-normal, but could be thrown by the nutrical. Gave me A/d food to force feed her if she wouldnt eat on her own. So, force feed her 3 times sunday, and she at once on her own. At bedtime, she started throwing up. Gave her karo syrup and rushed her to emergency vet. Her blood sugar was only 51. They still have here with a jugular iv of dextrose. She is eating intermittenly, but her sugar will still get too low, despite the dextrose. They are going to do the 12 hour test I have seen mentioned here, but has anyway had this before. She is so sweet, but only weighs 1 and 1/2 pounds. If it is shunt, I don't even know if she is too little for anesthesia. Is there anything else if could be?? I cannot bear to lose another one, even after only having her for less than a week...losing my Buttercup before was devastating. Any help would be appreciated, sorry to be so long winded. |
