I use a holistic vet and he recommends the first shots at around 10 to 12 weeks (distemper and parvo only) and the second set 4 weeks later. He says that should protect them the rest of their life but to be sure I think you could get a titer test done once year to be sure they are still immunized. I would put of the rabies shot as long a possible. For kennel cough the vet gave me some little tiny homeopathic pellets, I don't know what they are called but I feel they are really safe. The main thing is to not let your vet over vaccinate. If you have a tiny Yorkie then I would definitely wait until at least 10 weeks. Another thing I recommend is to have blood work before the 1st shots if possible. Just a regular blood panel might show if anything is going on with the liver. If you have the blood work done within a 4 weeks after the shot you can get a false reading. |
