As I stated in my first post and others have as well... definately a Dr must diagnose. We were fortunate to already be a patient of the ADD/ADHD that we were refered to. Our pediatrician in one of the best in our area. Matter of a fact... Every Thursady is ADD/ADHD patients only. New & follow ups. We have to go every year for a 1 hour or so check up and get new cap "review" forms filled out every year as well, usually afte the 1st nine weeks of school. Their teachers do not know they take meds until the first set of cap forms come along so they are not able to be "labeled." However... sometimes teachers need to understand how it works... it is harder for an ADD/ADHD student to do as much work as others and be successful. So, teachers can help the situation & only give odd or even problems to do and grade off that, or the top 1/2 or bottom 1/2 of a worksheet & grade off that. ADD/ADHD kids can/will get VERY overwhelmed having long worksheets or tests in front of them and can only handle a certain amount... most likely failing the work or getting VERY sloppy and not caring.
Also... when my youngest was diagnosed... we went to our ADD/ADHD dr... she evaluated him then refered him to a pediatric physologist. She also evaluated him and verified Dr's finding. She also recommended socialization classes. He had a hard time getting/keeping friends b/c his craziness. My was a on the table, under the table, tripping & hitting the teacher kid too...
Anyways... Yes... diagnosed ONLY by correct Dr... there are other meds than Ritalin, looks like most of ours are on the same ... Concerta. We are 27 (Add) & 54(ADHD). There are also natural things you can do and they will come up with research on the internet under natural ADD/ADHD treatment | I was on Concerta as an adult and I liked it! |
