I think it would be a good career. I worked for lawyers for 16 years. But from the computer/accounting aspects. Towards the end I did have 2 cases of my own, and they were kinda training me paralegal that way. Some of the girls who took the Paralegal training courses said that was really special they were doing that for me, as they usually don't do that. But then I moved and had to quit that job, so it didn't go far. But it just depends on the case what type of hands-on work you will do, yes you do get to do alot of hands on. I have a friend who is a Legal Sec/Paralegal and she actually got to go with her boss to the Supreme Court for a case. It pays pretty well too. Be prepared - you may have to do Legal Secretarial work to begin with, unless you go to work for a big firm as a paralegal right away. Now you got me thinking, maybe I should take that course and get back into it, but this time with training!! (and not in accounting!).
