My boyfriends family currently has an assortment of 6 small dog only as pets, ranging from a champion show yorkie, to a geriatric pet yorkie, a couple mutts and a couple poodles. For as long as they can recall they usually have at least 4 small dogs (they occasionally take in fosters) and have never even considered breeding. The only reason they won't spay/neuter is if they are showing, and put em' in diapers to make sure they can't get pregnant or impregnate.
And they have a miniture macaw. It's a full house.
I think they just like finding puddles around the house.
I certainly hear enought warnings to watch my step when we plan on visiting.
