As far as potty goes... My book The Loved Dog (Very good for puppy training by the way!) Say to make a potty a potty and that is it... I have an enclosed area for my dogs to go. Chewy is one and a half years old and he won't go in the house unless he is sick! He is so potty trained... The enclosed area will stop all the sniffing and they will go with in 2 min. I know it sounds like I am exagerating but I swear it is true.

Sadie is 14 weeks now and she goes right away when she has to go when we put her in the potty... but she also has accidents unless we are on top of things because she has not learned to hold it till she goes to the potty area... As far as letting them run the yard... I would make that a different time from potty time. I know you want to reward but there will be times you have to go some where and you will not have time for running and playing!!! Potty time is different from play time for us and my dogs know the difference.
