Both! I cant recall a woman being executed in my lifetime. Or maybe I have just blocked it out!
Death row is just where they house inmates that are up for execution.
I am sure if there was a woman eligible she would be there.
for instance in the state of Texas there are currently 111 on death row, 5 women and 106 men.

Some people are on death row so long they die a natural death there.
I guess it just takes so long for them to run out of appeals and their second, thrid forth etc, chances in court. Hope that answers your question.
