I have never done this but a lot of peoplehave luck training their dog to ringa bell when they need to go out. You hang a bell they can reach on the door knob or somewhere near the door where you take the dog out to go potty and you use their paw to ring the bell every time you take her out. Eventully she will learn to ring the bell.
