It is scary when you see blood and your puppies in the same picture!! I also use the surgical clamps for tails and dew claws. Don't want to take my babies to the vet where there are so many SICK dogs. I hold my puppies the entire time I am docking and they really do not like being held on their backs..that is when they cry and squirm to get right side up. I do keep a suture handy in case there is bleeding from the tail and in all the years I have used it once..That was in the beginning and I took the clamp off too soon. There is no bare spot on the end of the tail when the clamp is used but the little bit of flesh that is in the clamp will dry up and get knocked off of I can twist it off after a week or two. This procedure is very much like we used to doint the delivery room for humans and later when the umbilical cord dries up and is ready to come off..
I did try using the rubber band ONCE but I could not manage to be quick about it and hold my baby to do the wrapping. The clamp is zip! and you're done and you just wait to finish the job. I do not have help when I do the tails, etc. |
