I've been on the other side as well. My first semester away from home I was able to come home pretty often - we had many family events that semester. My mom loved that and I loved it too. It was hard for her everytime I went back to school. But, I had instant messenger on my computer and school and she had it on her computer, so we were able to talk all the time. I think that helped her.
Now my brother has just gone off to school and he is home for his vacation. I think my mom will have a harder time when he leaves since there are no other kids at home for her to look after.
