Default life span

The average life span is roughly 12 to 13 yrs...but many factors come into play. Spay/neutered pets who have a good diet and regular dental care can live much longer..others will not make it to 10 if they are allowed to run free in an unsecure area, eat a poor diet and never see the vet. Heart worm prevention is very needed.

Most Yorkies have kidney problems as they age, so I would use a low protein food..mine eat Merrick also. I would have a routine urine sample run and check the urine for proteins etc...bad teeth effect the heart and kidneys, so keep them brushed, pull anything without worry, they do well with fewer teeth, even no teeth as opposed the abcessed ones......best wishes
PS..most of mine have died in the 13 to 14th year...several died at 16, one at 17, but many died at 12 also.
