It is true about the kickbacks, when vets are in vet school they get all sorts of fun stuff for free from Hills every month. Hills also pays lots of money for various things like scholarships, books, etc. I guess its worth it to them cuz they make money when the vets practice and retail the stuff. My hubby does not feel that Hills is any quality of dog food. We use hollistic food for our three pups, natural balance venison and sweet potato for our allergic to everything lab, and now the Innova for yorkie and the golden. He not only looks at the nutrition levels, but also the values of the company. Neither of which Hills has. Don't feel bad, you were just trying to do what's best for your max.
