It seems at first, the people did have to pay the taxes. Which is awful, considering they are usually financially in bad shape on that show. So, if I recall correctly, they now have them transfer ownership of the property to the producers of the show--or something like that. And then they "sell" it to them back for nothing or $1 or something like that. I can't recall the precise details, but it involves transferring it back and forth so that it is not the homeowners' tax burden.
