Hi Lavonda. The one helpful tip that I have learned along the way is that potty training is quicker and easier if you bring your pup outside on a leash.
I brought my pup home at 12 weeks of age and introduced him to the harness right away. I also purchased a retractable leash so that he could sniff the ground and move around more comfortably. This technique, along with going outside many many many times during the day did do the trick. I still always am aware of when Remi needs to go out. I have learned his schedule and am aware that most times he needs to relieve himself after he plays and always shortly after he eats. In addition, I am encouraged him by saying "hurry up" and now he seems to know what I expect . Lots and lots of praise helps too!!
Another tip that I could suggest is that as your pup gets the idea of relieving himself outside after all of the praise you have given him, start bringing him other places away from the house so that he will not get used to just one area.
Lots of good luck! |
