Charlie is a rescue pup (10 yo), and had demodex. From previous records, he had the mites when he was 4 and never treated. His previous owner for six months and her vet treated him for allergies with heavy doses of cortisone drugs. Cortisone is contraindicated for mites ie Prednisone. I gave Charlie "Invermectin" orally for the mites since I believe the dips involve the anatomy that should be protected. I placed him on a no-grain kibble (Orijen) and fish oil. Also, he had a thyroid test that revealed his count was '0' and should have been between 4-5. He had scrapings until the mites no longer revealed themselves as living.

Your pup most likely had them passed from the mother, and you are correct that it is an immune deficiency. Good luck and there are excellent articles to read. My belief is all dips should be regarded as injurious to the pup.

Warmly, Deborah
