Bitsy got her period a few days ago and I was wondering how long I now have to wait to get her spayed? How long does the first menstrual cycle last?

Bitsy will be 6 months old tomorrow and I had her scheduled for her spay at the end of January, thinking that small dogs like her usually get their first heat at 8 months.

I'm also wondering, since she got her period will her growing slow down significantly? She's already 7 lbs!
