When I got Deiter I would put a towel over the crate, that helped, then I would tell him no cry, no bark. Once he would stop all the above I would take him out to potty, and when potty give a cherrio to him outside and tell him good potty, being in and play with him for a while then back out to potty and repeat. Bring in put in crate, leave until stop crying, then tell him good no cry and repeat. I did this all day and evening. But if I could be with him I would leave out so I could watch to make sure he didn't potty on floor. if looked like he needed to potty i would put him on a wee wee pad and say potty here.
But try putting a towel over and see if that works.
