We separate our boys for feeding as well...we actually separate all four of the dogs as they all eat at different rate but don't want each other to eat theirs. The boys eat in their X Pens and the girls eat on opposite sides of the room so we can keep an eye on them. This really helps us, as each has their own space to eat and then can relax and not get stressed about it.
The bone guarding happens around here as well...we no longer have any bones like that in the house b/c it causes too many problems as they want what the other one has. I would suggest other toys and only letting them have a bone while they are separated after eating or something like that.
