Try flying Northwest with your dog - they have no clue what they're doing. I took Kalina on Northwest and held her on my lap the entire time we were sitting on the runway (HOURS!!) and no one said a word. I did ask everyone around me if it was OK and they were more than happy with it. The attendants didn't seem to care at all.
