Do you have the area in the kitchen gated off? Or do you have an Xpen?
I think you're right about the smaller area. That might work. Are you rewarding him when he goes on the pad? I mean REWARD...halleluhia chorus...big band...treats? That is working for us. Gizmo even has a little dance he does when we haven't noticed that he's used the pad! LOL!
