My 4 year old baby Frankie does not produce tears in his right eye. We went to an eye specialist recently and she flat out said that he would be blind in both eyes by the time he is 5. She was not sympathetic at all and I have not gone back since. She immediately wanted to do surgery to revert his saliva gland to his eye, which could or could not help with the dry eye from not producing tears. I thought I would try out a couple of new eye medicines first before rushing into a surgery. I have not noticed any problems with sight in his other eye, and maybe somewhat in his eye that does not have tears. I am not sure if this was a correct diagnosis. I am really hoping she is wrong, it was a really upsetting situation. Frankie has been managing well on his new eye meds for over a year now. Hopefully she was wrong and we can maintain his eye with what we are doing now. |
