Default Recognizing Vision Problems

I am by no means an expert but I have had quite a few people ask me how I noticed problems with Hallie's eyes which ultimately led to a diagnosis of retinal degeneration so I thought I would share my experience.

1. Her and Simon used to bark their crazy little heads off at the squirrels out my back doors and I started to notice that Hallie wouldn't bark with Simon, instead she would run away and try to hide. Now I know it's because she couldn't really see the squirrels like Simon can.

2. She wasn't as excited when I came through the door, it was like she didn't recognize me until I said something. Then she would do her happy dances and be happy. I have now started to talk to her A LOT so she knows my voice and that makes her happy.

3. I had a friend who hadn't seen her in awhile and Hallie didn't really recognize her until she smelled her. That friend actually asked about her vision (that was when I finally took her in).

Now that she's been diagnosed I am really watching her to see how she changes and have noticed a few other things that are probably a result of her vision loss. She follows the wall down the hallway of my apartment, her night vision isn't very good and it takes her awhile to climb the steps into the bed.

I don't want to scare anyone, I just wanted to share what happened with us in case anyone else that I haven't been PM'ing with was curious.

Hallie, Simon and I are making little adjustments but we are very happy and will continue to have fun, exciting lives. We will just do some things a little different
