Plus, I found their hair was frequently uneven and the cuts sloppy even using the same groomer. Now my puppies love going into the groomers and look great, relaxed and happy when I pick them up. The staff make a big deal out of making them (and us) feel very comfortable so I have no qualms about leaving my puppies there for an hour to be groomed. I actually have to carry them out because they want to stay and play there!!
When I'd pick them up at Petsmart from grooming they clung to me like their lives depended on it digging their nails into me and strained and barking to get out through the door away from that place.

you know what? now that i think about it, Belle clung to me too when i picked her up from Petsmart's groomers... luckily i found a salon by my house (which i pay a lot more for than i did at petsmart) but i love the way they do her hair... and she's not as nervous... she hates her paws touched, but she's gotten a lot better since i took her to the new salon... it's 60 bucks every month... but i think it's well worth it
even though they do the same thing every time...i make sure to tell them anyways... cut around the paws, around the ears, trim her bangs, but keep the top knot, trim a little bit from the body, trim around the tail, cut her nails... the way i see it, if you are trusting them with your furbutt, and you're paying them to do something... then that is what they should do, and i make sure to tell them exactly what i want
I remember at petsmart they have you sign a paper that says they'll shave your dog if he/she is too matted, i always signed it... but maybe you can tell them that you won't sign you want to see why they'd shave him... how matted he is or whatever...
