The petstore probably puts that because they know where these dogs come from and know they can't be sure that they are purebred. I'm sure that fine print is to protect them if the owner finds out later on that the dog is not purebred like they originally thought.

CKC is no a reputable registry. They don't have strict standards like the AKC. You can register any dog with the CKC. I believe all you have to do is send in a couple pictures of the dog and have two witnesses sign that it is purebred. We all know that a lot of mixes can appear to be purebred and a lot of purebreds can look like mixes. And you could have anyone sign as a witness. So who knows if a lot of those CKC registered dogs are really purebred. I'm sure there are some good CKC breeders out there, but because of their unstrict policies, it has become a haven for backyard breeders and puppymills. You won't see nearly as many AKC registered pups in petstores as you will CKC, ACA, APRI, APR, etc..

Purchasing from backyard breeders, pet shops, and puppymills perpetuates the suffering of other dogs.
Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
