Make sure there aren't many different kids of dogs and not too many dogs in general. Make sure you SEE the parents. Ask for a pedigree. It's best if the person shows their dogs, rather than just had puppies because they thought their dog was cute. My trainer breeds labs and she only breeds her girls AFTER they have been finished in the show ring (she calls it the beauty pagent) AND the obedience ring. Make sure the dogs live in the house and not in the garage or outbuilding. They need constant socialization with littermates and humans. Puppies should be with mom until 12 weeks old.

Also, try petfinder.com and your shelters first. Sometimes it's hard to find Yorkies but it's worth checking first!
