I use a liter box they work great...now
However, I did go through a period where no matter what did they shredded the pads. So for about 4 months I used washable pee pads, still inside the liter box and when they grew out of that destructive phase I switched back to throw away pads - inside the box. I like the box idea, b/c they have to step in to do potty. I had the problem of them just peeing on the corner, so the pee was all over the floor
