I've BEEN to the doctor (going on week 3 of this) and all they gave me was nasal spray. Unless it's an infection (strep, sinus) they won't give you anything because it won't help. This is all just a terrible virus. Mine keeps moving so it was sinus/headache/dizzy and now it's sore throat/earache. Plus a fever that comes and goes. It sucks. I used to be able to sleep off a cold in 1-2 days and be fine, but everyone has this and it just lingers and moves from head to chest and back for weeks!!! The dr said Dayquil/Nyquill, Robitussin CF if I start to cough, and AFRIN nasal spray. I bought generics of everything on her list for like $10 total. I haven't used it all yet, mostly just advil for the pain, but I didn't want to have to send my husband out at 2am because I needed it. The nasal spray is great though. You can get the Afrin OTC or they will give you a prescription for a steroid nasal spray.
I hope everyone feels better soon.
We are getting this ice storm tomorrow so I'm just planning to sleep through it! |
Erin~ I'm sorry you're feeling so badly too. I don't know if you have Trader Joe's there, but I think they sell (and so does Costco or Walmart) Airborne for less than $8. Sometimes, even some of the bigger chains sell it for less (sale) during the cold and flu season, like Long's or maybe RiteAid or Walgreen. Look online at the websites to see their weekly sale items before you or your dh go out. And yes, you COULD put it in juice if you wanted; just use a fairly thin juice; not a vegetable or tomato juice.
I do know from vast experience that when you have a really bad cough that prevents you from sleeping that a cough medicine with codeine in it (avail. only by prescription) is THE BEST cough suppressant of all. Most of the time you don't need anything that strong, but there's nothing worse than coughing and coughing all night long (or even all day long and not being able to stop). A lot of people can't tolerate or are allergic to codeine though....I hope you're feeling better soon~ rest is really the best thing, LOL....I figure I'll just dose myself up and sleep thru any illness I have, hehe....
