You can sign up for different types of plans, but we have three movies at a time, unlimited number of rentals, and it costs us about 18 bucks a month. The movies come in the mail already in the envelope you send them back in. If I send in a movie on Monday morning, I will have another one by Wednesday. Most major cities have a Netflix facility so they receive your rental returns pretty quick. You choose the movies you want to rent online (my list has over 200 movies on it so far) and the order in which you receive them. Sometimes my BF will go online and change the order so we get something like Spiderman when I am expecting something like the Notebook. What I like best about it is that you can get seasons of things, like the Office seasons 1-3 are available. Actually I got to preview the Muppet Show season 2 on DVD through netflix before I bought it. They send each disk of the multi disk set. They also have lots of old movies on dvd and musicals and operas. Instructional videos, Discovery Channel and Animal Planet episodes, stuff from PBS. Their selection is bigger than any other rental company in the US. We really love it.
