I just use a regular leash made by Cindy which I like much better, but I think it says on those retractable ones how many pounds it can sustain. Maybe when you watch the dog you could just use a regular leash to be on the safe side. If the dog pulls really hard, then maybe suggest to his parents that he should be trained.
