As others have said, your best bet is to find a mentor that will take you under their wing. When we started to get into breeding/showing a few years ago, my wife's co-worker and good friend mentored us. She has been breeding/showing Yorkies for over 20 years and has two of the top ten ranked Yorkies in the country (which we use as stud for our girls).

She actually GAVE us our first Yorkie (Samantha) as a gift and to help us get started. We (as many breeders do) have a spay/neuter clause in our contract. If you find a breeder that will allow full registration rights, expect to pay more than thier typical going rate for a pet quality pup.
