Lacy is microchipped, as is my younger cat. I may get my older cat microchipped sometime soon as well (when I got her I lived in a small town where no one microchips). I would microchip on your first visit to the vet - it's not any more painful than any other shot. I know someone said microchipping doesn't guarantee their return and that's true, but the more ID on them the better...microchipping very much increases the chances of being returned. Lacy wears a tag with my phone number too.
