I'd caution anyone using meat tenderizer, Deter, Solid Gold SEP or like products that contain MSGs (or Glutamic Acid or monosodium glutomate). There are many adverse reactions associated with MSG consumption. MSGs are NOT healthy if consumed in large quantities. That is why many Chinese Restaurants which used to put MSGs in their food now advertise that their food is MSG-free.

This is from a CNN article referencing a WebMD article and discusses human reactions to MSG but it seems that certain ingredients can cause reactions in both our pets and ourselves:

Quote:
Symptoms that MSG can bring on

Reported MSG reactions, which can occur as a result of consuming even small amounts (much less than the 1/2 gram the FDA considers to be low), include migraines; hives; mouth eruptions; numbness; tingling; swelling of mucous membranes in the oral, gastrointestinal or reproductive tract; asthma; runny nose; insomnia; seizures; mood swings; panic attacks; diarrhea; and cardiac irregularities.

Solid Gold SEP Ingredients:
Dicalcium Phosphate, Rice Flour, Glutamic Acid, Peppermint, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Beef Liver, Oil of Parsley, Natural Flavoring

Please note: This product is not intended for cats.
My lab is a poop eater and I used the Solid Gold SEP for awhile until 1) it stopped working and 2) I learned about the MSGs. I find that the very best way to get them to stop eating their poop is to pick it up immediately after they go. Just follow them outside and watch them potty and right when they poop, pick it up.
