As long as you buy at least 6 Mpix you are OK. Don't overspend just to get more, you won't notice a huge difference unless you are trying to take professional pics or enlargements.

I have a Canon S3IS. I wanted a big camera with a big lens that could take pictures in low-light and has a big flash, but I didn't want the expense or learning curve of an SLR. The Canon S3 is the closest you can get without going SLR. I got it last December so the might have updated the model, but I'm sure whatever they replaced it with is good as well.

My brother has the little credit card sizes Canon. It takes great pics outside and has a huge screen. I love that it fits in a pocket, but I would still choose mine for any posed shots.

I still say no matter what, get a Canon.
