Dogs live in the now and if they are loved they are happy. Dogs want to please whoever has them. As long as they are loved they will be happy! Just like your rescues. I'd rather not re-home but sometimes it's not an option.
I never said a dog couldnt be happy being rehomed, I see a lot of dogs being rehomed and they are very happy, But then there are dogs that it just dont work for them they get set in their ways and its so hard for them they get where they have never been around other dogs to play only to breed, They have never been around children, The different changes brought on by rehoming can be very hard and sad on some dogs. as for show dogs, Theres a lot of them that have never been allowed to romp in the grass or get their coats dirty, They dont even know what playing or a toy is, That to makes me sad. and I have also seen dogs that have been used for nothing but breeding never having a play or never being loved on and then being rehomed and getting to know what a real human dog bond is. Those dogs I am very happy for. what I was trying to say is If You are using a dog for breeding and then when its to old to breed, rehome it, well I think thats sad, why cant those dogs be loved on and played with just like a pet. Thats is what I was trying to get at, They give their owners their babies and then what do they get in return. Im not saying im against all rehoming Because some times those dogs end up in a better home then what they had, but then there are some that just cant take it. their to old its to much stress on them and then they end up getting rehomed again and again. Thats what I hate to see. Heck Im Thinking about taking in another female that a breeder I know is rehoming because she cant be breed there for she wont keep her. Yes it up sets me, but I feel that baby is not getting the love and attention she deserves, so If I dont take her I will help to rehome her. I want her to have a wonderful Loving forever home, I dont think shes ever been loved on. Thats what makes me sad.
