I had a past coworker buy a tiny chihuahua puppy (only like 7 or 8 weeks old) who was having major hypoglycemia problems at the very beginning. She returned her to the breeder to keep for a while longer...and when the breeder took the puppy to the vet, she found out the puppy had liver shunt and the puppy was put to sleep. She wouldn't give my coworker her money back but said she could have a puppy from her next litter. The breeder told her that she had a few before with liver shunt and it just happened sometimes and then went on to tell her it wasn't genetic... Umm...it IS genetic

Purchasing from backyard breeders, pet shops, and puppymills perpetuates the suffering of other dogs.
Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
