Get some nice paper and cut it into small stripes. On each stripe of paper write a memory (something funny, a vacation, an inside joke, etc.) of the person you are making the gift for. Make a whole bunch of them and put them in a nice container.
You could also found them in half and punch a hole through both layers and tie it closed with ribbon.
I did this for my mom one mother's year probably 5 or more years ago and she still says how it has been her favorite gift ever.
