it really has nothing to do with their food, so your vet was right. An anal sacculectomy can be a tricky procedure so if your vet isn't that experienced with it i would take charlie to a specialist to have it done. When i was working at a regular practice the vet had only done a few and she was nervous about the outcome (all the dogs did fine btw) because if its done wrong you can cause incontinence.
