Since it's this late in the game....the best thing to do is wrap it or braid it.....not only the possibility of strangling the puppies...but, later when she's let out to potty her coat will be dragging on the ground picking up germs, getting dirty. Call me anal...I just am.....when my dams go out....to potty, I make sure that their feet, legs, private area and breasts are thorougly cleaned before I put them back with the babies.
I usually cut down my girls as soon as I know they are with whelp.....not only for safety, sanitary reasons....but, also much quicker to dry them, therefore not keeping her away from pups for any great length of time.
