Next time, you might want to invest in a puppy play pen.....that way you can raise the grates....cover the grates with rubber tiles, put her whelping box in there, then cover those with piddle pads (this also gives pups sure footing when they begin to walk. It gives you easier acess without your having to sit on the floor. Also, keeps the pups up higher, where it is warmer, as well as giving her more privacy....
